Fact-checking the Vice President on Abortion
Moderators of last night’s Presidential debate were quick to fact-check former President Donald Trump, but never once fact-checked Vice President Harris. While we don’t pretend to be experts on every subject, we do know a little about abortion, allow us to fact check her for you.
Harris Pledges Just to Restore Roe
In previous interviews, Harris refused to acknowledge that Roe v. Wade imposed any restrictions on late abortions, even the third trimester. And moments before her statement about restoring Roe, the Vice President again pledged to sign the Women’s Health Protection Act, which codifies a “right” to abortion throughout all 9 months of pregnancy.
Harris Denies Abortions Happening in 3rd Trimester
While calling suggestions that abortions are occurring in the 7th, 8th and 9th months of pregnancy “insulting to women”, the vice president overlooked abortion providers like Dr. Warren Hern of Boulder, Colorado, the late Dr. LeRoy Carhart, the late Dr. George Tiller of Kansas who specialized in late abortions, Pennsylvania’s Dr. Kermit Gosnell (now serving a life sentence for killing three infants after birth; the remains of 47 infants were found at his facility) and the various abortion providers featured in the videos published by the Center for Medical Progress.
VP Harris Scoffs at the idea of After-Birth Abortion
Both Kamela Harris and the moderator, Linsey Davis, dismissed a claim made by former President Trump’s regarding after-birth abortions. Trump was, of course, referring to former Governor Ralph Northam’s comments regarding babies born alive after abortion being kept “comfortable” while the mother decides whether or not the baby was to be resuscitated. https://www.cnn.com/2019/01/31/politics/ralph-northam-third-trimester-abortion/index.html
Even more damning, in 2016, as California’s attorney general, Mrs. Harris ordered the raid of the home of Center for Medical Progress’ David Daleiden to seize undercover video evidence of late-term babies being delivered alive and killed by organ trafficking in multiple states. Instead of investigating the abortion providers for illegal sale of human organs which they repeatedly admitted to, her office instead brought the full force of the law against the undercover journalists who exposed them.
Additionally, Harris voted twice against providing protections (health care) for babies born alive after abortion. Her running mate, Governor Tim Walz, actually repealed those protections in MN, and later removed a requirement that clinics even report these births. We do know that there were 8 recorded babies, presumably before he changed the reporting requirement.
Vice President Harris has yet to name a single restriction on abortion that she would support. She and her running mate have the extreme position on this issue. Weird.
