[ How to testify before the State Board of Education ]
Abstinence is under attack! Abstinence became the law in Texas in 1995. Now that new textbooks that comply with the law have been submitted for review and adoption, opponents of the 9-year-old law have mobilized. See what they're up to by visiting http://www.protectourkids.com/.
Texas Freedom Network, Planned Parenthood and the Texas Abortion Rights Action League (TARAL) are demanding the books be rejected or "corrected", characterizing the abstinence message as irresponsible, dangerous and reckless. The media has been happy to assist. At a July hearing opponents of Abstinence outnumbered supporters by a 10-1 margin.
Parents, teachers, students, school nurses and other health providers are urgently needed to defend the 100% effective virtue of Abstinence.
Texas is the second largest purchaser of textbooks in the U.S., and dozens of states will buy the books we approve. As a result, the national media is already covering the story.
Talking points, supporting data and other help will be provided to witnesses, and advance registration is required. A charter bus from Dallas will be available. Call Kyleen Wright at Texans for Life - (972) 790-9044 - or e-mail kwright@texlife.org.
Remember, Abstinence Plus is just Safe Sex in an Abstinence Wrapper. Our kids deserve real protection, not the latex pretender. Their very lives are depending on us.
