Health Textbooks Give Texas Parents Cause to Celebrate

IRVING - Texans for Life (TLC) applauds the publishers of the health textbooks currently up for adoption by the State Board of Education.

The textbooks are in compliance with state law, and despite what has been reported, the books conform to the TEKS. The books are accurate, and according to Kyleen Wright, President of Texans for Life Coalition, "Texas families are the ultimate winners."

The placement of sensitive information in the teacher's edition is appropriate and family-friendly. This brilliant move on the part of publishers puts sensitive materials in the hands of the adult teacher, so that he or she can work with students and parents in presenting the material.

Nine years ago, Texans wisely changed course, making abstinence the law and the standard in classrooms across the state. Our textbooks are finally catching up, and it is high time.

Texas has since been named one of the top three states for significantly reducing teen pregnancy, live births to teens and abortions.

Mrs. Wright stated, "The news that Texas is leading the way in reducing teen pregnancy, along with the new textbooks, is welcome news indeed."

Texans for Life Coalition is one of the state's largest and oldest non-profit organizations dedicated to reducing abortion through education, which include in part the promotion of abstinence until marriage.
