MOTHER IS SAVED BY THE SON SHE WOULD NOT ABORT
Nearly two decades ago, Robyn Bowen refused when a doctor suggested she
abort her baby to save her life.
Bowen was three months pregnant when a doctor at the Mayo Clinic in
Rochester, Minnesota warned that her unborn baby would drain important
nutrients and put a strain on her failing kidneys. Three weeks from her
due date, after 12 hours of induced labor, Bowen delivered a healthy baby,
Brandon.
As Brandon grew up, he watched his mother struggle with her illness. After
years of painful treatments and numerous hospitalizations, her health was
slipping away. He felt more and more helpless. He was fourteen when he
first offered to donate a kidney but was told he was too young. His mother
hoped that he would forget by the time he reached the legal age of 18, but
Brandon did not forget for a moment.
Recently, mother and child returned to the Mayo Clinic where he underwent
surgery to give her a kidney and a chance to keep living. "We are going
back to the same place that told us he would kill me and now he is giving
me life again," said Brandon's mother before the surgery.
Said Brandon, "I watched her getting weaker and weaker and wasting away. I
knew that someday I would have to save my mom's life."
