Poll Finds Most Kids Believe in Waiting until Marriage

A poll of children ages six to fourteen conducted for the children's
television channel Nickelodeon and TIME (reported in the July 5, 1999
issue) found that 76 percent of adolescents surveyed say it is "somewhat
or very important" to wait until marriage befoe having sex.
When the other 24 percent were asked to name an appropriate age for
premarital sex, the average age mentioned was 23. The average
appropriate age for premarital sex mentioned by parents in the same poll
was 18.
