Former Abortion Clinic Operator Explains Next Phase of Pro-life
Legislation
Life Issues Institute, Inc. out of Cincinnati, Ohio has done a two-part interview of Eric Harrah (September and October 1998 Issues). Harrah is the former operator of one of the largest chains of abortion clinics in the U.S. Recently he converted to Christianity and has become pro-life. Harrah has great insight and advice on how to stop abortions.
1.) Harrah advocates requiring the licensing of all abortion facilities on the basis of the concern for the health and welfare of the mother.
2.) He also advocates reporting requirements forcing the abortion clinics to maintain accurate statistics. This is extremely important because if complications are reported we will know: (a) how many women are actually hurt by abortions, and (b) which abortionists are inflicting the most damage on women.
Mr. Harrah says that, "It [the abortion industry] is probably one of the most unregulated medical fields there is." He says that he has seen men use his clinics to cover up the fact that they are having sex with very underage girls. He also saw parents intimidate or threaten their daughters to have abortions to protect the parent's reputations. Parents have even offered money to clinic workers to render unwilling patients unconscious. Eric claims the saddest cases were when the woman did not want the baby but the father did. He says, "They'd sit out in the waiting room, or sit outside in their cars just crying their hearts out, begging these women not to do it."
Abortion clinics are even used by military recruiters because they have a quota to meet and young enlisted women may get pregnant before their active duty begins. So the recruiters bring the girls to his clinics to have abortions.
3.) Eric advocates a federal law that prohibits military recruiters from referring, providing transportation, or facilitating the abortions of recruits.
Eric also warns that the abortion industry gives money to battered women's shelters and women's study programs, and locates clinics near colleges in order to obtain referrals from these places.
