DOCTORS ENDORSE ABSTINENCE EDUCATION In a dramatic policy reversal, the Texas Medical Association has just endorsed abstinence-based education as "the healthiest and most effective way to prevent pregnancy and sexually transmitted infections in unmarried adolescents." Dallas orthopedic surgeon Dr. John Gill, a sponsor of the pro-abstinence resolution, said the Association hopes "this strong statement by the medical community will empower parents." The support of the most influential medical group in Texas combined with the Texas Attorney General's office will lend major impetus to efforts already underway to reach school-aged children with a message affirming chastity and marriage.
